THE LITTLE SKILL DEPOT
Best design and UI skills for Claude Code in 2026
Design is the category where a coding agent fails most visibly, and the category with the most skills competing to fix it: 767 in our index. These eight are the ones whose install counts, file contents and last-updated dates hold up. Numbers are from the 2026-09-03 crawl.
Our picks
#1
- frontend-design
anthropics/skills
Guidance for distinctive, intentional visual design when building new UI or reshaping an existing one. Helps with aesthetic direction, typography, and making choices that don't read as templated defaults.
Why: About 850K installs. Sets a visual direction before code is written; the default first install for any new screen.
#2
- web-design-guidelines
vercel-labs/agent-skills
Review UI code for Web Interface Guidelines compliance. Use when asked to "review my UI", "check accessibility", "audit design", "review UX", or "check my site against best practices".
Why: About 604K installs. A reviewer, not a generator: audits finished markup against accessibility and interaction rules.
#3
- design-taste-frontend
leonxlnx/taste-skill
tasteskill v2, the anti-slop frontend skill. Art direction for websites, distilled from a study of 247 curated gallery sites (One Page Love, Awwwards Sites of the Day). Deals researched directions (idea, composition, type, palette, photographs, section blueprints) from a library, enforces a strict no-slop house style with a real-browser inspector, and runs a look-and-fix loop on screenshots. Use this whenever you build, design, redesign, restyle, polish or review a landing page, marketing site, portfolio, product page, one-pager, hero or any public-facing web page, in any stack (HTML/CSS, React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Astro, Tailwind) — also when the user says a page looks generic, templated, "AI-made", sloppy, or asks to make it look designed, premium, award-level or less like every other site. Not for dashboards or app screens.
Why: About 439K installs. The strongest anti-template push for landing pages, at the cost of an 87 KB SKILL.md.
#4
- ui-ux-pro-max
nextlevelbuilder/ui-ux-pro-max-skill
UI/UX design intelligence for web, mobile, and desktop. This skill should be used when designing, building, reviewing, or fixing interfaces, including pages, components, design systems, accessibility, interaction, responsive layout, typography, color, charts, and stack-specific UI implementation. Searchable local data: 79 searchable styles (50 active), 192 product palettes and reasoning profiles, 74 font pairings, 119 UX guidelines, 105 icons, 17 GSAP presets, 25 chart types, and 22 stacks.
Why: About 343K installs. A searchable design knowledge base with scripts; best when you want palettes, fonts and patterns looked up rather than invented.
#5
- high-end-visual-design
leonxlnx/taste-skill
Teaches the AI to design like a high-end agency. Defines the exact fonts, spacing, shadows, card structures, and animations that make a website feel expensive. Blocks all the common defaults that make AI designs look cheap or generic.
Why: About 326K installs. Concrete font, spacing and shadow values for an expensive look; small enough to keep installed.
#6
- redesign-existing-projects
leonxlnx/taste-skill
Upgrades existing websites and apps to premium quality. Audits current design, identifies generic AI patterns, and applies high-end design standards without breaking functionality. Works with any CSS framework or vanilla CSS.
Why: About 322K installs. The only pick written for existing code: audits first, then upgrades without breaking behaviour.
#7
- impeccable
pbakaus/impeccable
Use when the user wants to design, redesign, shape, critique, audit, polish, simplify, harden, animate, or otherwise improve a frontend interface: websites, landing pages, dashboards, product UI, components, forms, settings, onboarding, empty states, and native iOS or Android screens. Handles UX review, hierarchy, layout, typography, color, motion, UX copy, accessibility, responsive behavior, edge cases, and capturing or documenting design systems (DESIGN.md, tokens). Also for making bland UI bolder, loud UI quieter, or ambitious visual effects. Not for backend-only or non-UI tasks.
Why: About 261K installs. A full toolkit of design commands (polish, critique, adapt, colorize) with 163 files and scripts.
#8
- emil-design-eng
emilkowalski/skills
This skill encodes Emil Kowalski's philosophy on UI polish, component design, animation decisions, and the invisible details that make software feel great.
Why: About 248K installs. Component-level polish and interaction judgement from a working design engineer.
A little help from the depot
How we chose
We started from the top of the design category sorted by installs, then read each SKILL.md and the file tree. A skill made the list if it does something a designer would recognise as a real rule, if the repository was updated within the last month, and if we could describe the catch honestly.
One repository, leonxlnx/taste-skill, holds thirteen skills and three of our picks. That is not favouritism: they are the only design skills that hand the agent exact values instead of adjectives. We limited it to three so the list is not one author's catalogue.
1. frontend-design (anthropics/skills)
What it does: before writing any UI, the agent commits to an aesthetic direction, a type pairing and a colour system, and then builds to that decision. About 850K installs, 173.6K stars, updated 2026-09-03, two files, no scripts, 9.4 KB.
When to use it: any new screen or component where you have not already got a design system. The catch: it is opinionated toward distinctive, editorial layouts, so on a corporate dashboard you may need to say "restrained" explicitly or it will reach for display type.
npx skills add anthropics/skills@frontend-design -g -y2. web-design-guidelines (vercel-labs/agent-skills)
What it does: reviews existing UI code against Vercel's Web Interface Guidelines and reports violations with file and line. About 604K installs, 30.8K stars, updated 2026-08-28, one file, 1.2 KB.
When to use it: right before you call a page finished. The catch: the SKILL.md is tiny because it tells the agent to fetch the current rule list from the repository each time, so it needs network access and its behaviour can change without a reinstall.
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills@web-design-guidelines -g -y3. design-taste-frontend (leonxlnx/taste-skill)
What it does: reads the brief, infers a direction, and runs a pre-flight checklist that rejects the centred hero, the purple gradient and the three identical cards. About 439K installs, 84K stars, updated 2026-08-24, one file.
When to use it: landing pages, portfolios and redesigns where looking generic is the failure. The catch: the SKILL.md is 87 KB, roughly 22,000 tokens, loaded in full every time it triggers. Install it for the project that needs it rather than globally.
npx skills add leonxlnx/taste-skill@design-taste-frontend -y4. ui-ux-pro-max (nextlevelbuilder/ui-ux-pro-max-skill)
What it does: a lookup system for styles, palettes, font pairings and UX rules, with a search script the agent runs to pull recommendations for a given product type. About 343K installs, 124.6K stars, updated 2026-09-03, 72 files, contains scripts, 16 KB.
When to use it: when you want defensible choices from a catalogue, for example a fintech palette or a SaaS pricing layout. The catch: it contains scripts, so read them before installing, and its output is only as good as the catalogue, which favours conventional patterns.
npx skills add nextlevelbuilder/ui-ux-pro-max-skill@ui-ux-pro-max -g -y5. high-end-visual-design and 6. redesign-existing-projects (leonxlnx/taste-skill)
high-end-visual-design names the exact fonts, spacing steps, shadow recipes and card structures that make a site feel expensive. About 326K installs, 10.6 KB, updated 2026-08-24. Use it when the brief says premium and the agent keeps producing default Tailwind. The catch: it prescribes one taste; if your brand is playful it will fight you.
redesign-existing-projects is the pair for code you already have. It audits the current design, names the generic patterns, and applies upgrades without touching behaviour. About 322K installs, 15 KB. Use it on a working app that looks dated. The catch: it assumes the agent can run and see the app; on a backend-only repo it has nothing to audit.
npx skills add leonxlnx/taste-skill@redesign-existing-projects -y7. impeccable (pbakaus/impeccable)
What it does: a set of named design operations (polish, critique, distill, harden, adapt, animate, colorize) the agent applies to a screen, backed by reference documents for each. About 261K installs, 65.3K stars, updated 2026-09-03, 163 files, contains scripts, 10.9 KB entry file.
When to use it: iterating on a screen that exists, one operation at a time. The catch: our crawl found sixteen copies of the same SKILL.md inside the repository, which is why impeccable appears many times in search results; install the plain one. It also ships scripts.
npx skills add pbakaus/impeccable@impeccable -g -y8. emil-design-eng (emilkowalski/skills)
What it does: encodes Emil Kowalski's judgement on component polish, when to animate, and the small details (focus rings, optical alignment, loading states) that separate good software from adequate software. About 248K installs, 35K stars, updated 2026-08-21, 27 KB.
When to use it: building buttons, inputs, dialogs and other components rather than whole pages. The catch: at 27 KB it is a long read for the agent, and it is React-flavoured; in Vue or Svelte the principles hold but the examples do not.
npx skills add emilkowalski/skills@emil-design-eng -g -yWhat we excluded and why
brainstorming from obra/superpowers has about 350K installs and carries the design tag, but it is a general planning skill; it appears here because of how our tagger reads the word "components". minimalist-ui, industrial-brutalist-ui and gpt-taste (each around 280K to 300K installs) are style presets from the same taste-skill repository; pick one only if that specific look is the brief. stitch-design-taste is for Google Stitch, brandkit and image-to-code generate images rather than interfaces.
How to combine them
Install one generator and one reviewer, not five generators. A sensible global set is frontend-design plus web-design-guidelines plus emil-design-eng. Add design-taste-frontend per project when a landing page is the job, and redesign-existing-projects when the job is an old app. Two generators with opposite taste will both answer "build a hero section" and fight.
Frequently asked questions
Do these work in Cursor and Codex, or only Claude Code?
All eight are plain SKILL.md folders, so they work in any agent that reads the format. Add --agent cursor or --agent codex to the install command to target one agent.
Why is install count the main ranking signal?
It is the only number that reflects a decision by someone who read the skill page. Stars belong to the repository, so a small skill in a famous repository inherits a big star count. We used installs to shortlist and then read the files to rank.
Which one should I install first?
frontend-design. It is small, maintained by Anthropic, has no scripts, and improves the first draft of almost any screen.
Is a large SKILL.md a problem?
It costs context every time the skill triggers, and on smaller context windows it can crowd out your own code. Under 15 KB is comfortable; design-taste-frontend at 87 KB is the outlier here and is worth it only when the page is the product.
