Skills are plain text instructions the agent follows, sometimes with scripts. Check the source, prefer repositories with many installs and stars, and read any script it ships.

Install

npx skills add DietrichGebert/ponytail@ponytail-audit-2

Runs in a terminal with Node.js 18 or newer. Add -y to skip the prompts and -g to install for every project instead of this one.

Install for your agent

npx skills add DietrichGebert/ponytail@ponytail-audit-2 --agent claude-code -y
Project install writes to
.claude/skills/ponytail-audit-2
Global install writes to
~/.claude/skills/ponytail-audit-2

Start a new session afterwards so the agent picks the skill up. In Claude Code you can also call it directly with /ponytail-audit-2.

What it does

Audit the whole repo like the senior developer who just inherited it and will be paged when it breaks. Order of importance: correct, safe, holds under load, tested, fast, lean. Lean still matters: every extra line must be read, tested and fixed later. This is a report the user asked for, so give it in full. 1. Map first - Audit what the user names: a folder, a package, or the whole repo. Nothing named: the whole repo. - Read the README, the deploy and build config, the dependency list, the entry points (main, routes, handlers, jobs, CLI commands) and the tests. - Find the expected load: one…

Lazy senior dev mode: the smallest change that fully solves the task, and a reply a busy human understands in one read. Use on any coding task (writing, fixing, refactoring, reviewing, choosing dependencies) and when the user says "ponytail", "be lazy", "simplest solution", "yagni", or complains about over-engineering or bloat. Levels: lite, full (default), ultra.

Quality review of a change: is the logic right, is it safe, does it hold under real load, is risky code tested, is it fast enough, and is every line needed. Reads the connected code, not only the diff. Each finding is explained in plain English. Use for "review this", "code review", "review the last commit", "review my PR", "is this over-engineered", /ponytail-review.
